 2022 Land Rover Discovery Sport

The 2022 Land Rover Discovery Sport is the automaker's most affordable model, and unlike rivals like the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC, it offers an optional third-row seat. Space back there is tight for anyone over the age of 10, but like other compact SUVs with seven seats, the 2022 Discovery Sport offers a bit more flexibility for when you just need to get the carpool home

Under the hood is a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four with 246 horsepower, and it gets 20 miles per gallon combined. The Discovery Sport doesn't have a low-range transfer case, but Land Rover's trick Terrain Response system helps keep all four wheels moving in bad weather or light terrain

Starting Price: $43,200
Combined Fuel Economy: 20 MPG
Cargo Space: 4.1 / 23.2 / 55.6 Cubic Feet
 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander

The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander is closely related, mechanically speaking, to the excellent Nissan Rogue. But there's one big difference. While the Rogue is available in a five-seat configuration only, the Outlander comes standard with a third row, bringing its passenger-hauling capacity to seven. The third row in the Outlander isn't huge, but it would definitely come in handy in a pinch

Besides that added practicality, the Mitsubishi Outlander is just as nice a family crossover as its Nissan cousin. With a 2.5-liter inline-four and a continuously variable transmission, with either front- or all-wheel drive, the Outlander has adequate performance and efficient operation. Meanwhile, there are myriad cubbies and storage bins inside, with a quality-feeling interior that should keep occupants comfortable and happy. Get pricing on the 2022 Mitusbishi Outlander

 2022 Tesla Model Y

At least for now, few manufacturers have the EV street cred that Tesla has. Following up on the success of the larger Model X, the Tesla Model Y launched in 2020, offering an optional third row. Check that $3,000 option box and you'll get an extra pair of small seats in the back that are good for emergencies or small kids

The 2022 Tesla Model Y also comes standard with dual-motor all-wheel drive for 2022, with an 82.0-kilowatt-hour battery (of which 75.0 kWh is usable). The EPA says the Model Y can go up to 330 miles per charge, though if you add the seven-seat interior layout, Tesla estimates that number at 326 miles. The base Model Y starts at $62,990 (plus that aforementioned three grand for the folding third row). The faster, more powerful Performance model isn't available in a seven-seat configuration, so folks will have to pick one or the other. Get pricing on the 2022 Tesla Model Y

 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan

Undercutting the Mitsubishi Outlander by a mere $5, the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan is the most affordable three-row SUV on the market with seating for up to seven passengers and a starting price of under $27,000. All front-drive Tiguans get the third row standard, though it goes away if you order all-wheel drive – models with 4Motion no longer offer a third row option

The 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan now comes standard with heated front seats (even on the base S model), as well as keyless entry with pushbutton start and an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster. The Tiguan SE gets remote start and dual-zone climate control, while the top-spec SEL R-Line gets a larger 10.3-inch gauge display. All VW Tiguan models have a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four with 184 horsepower, as well as an eight-speed automatic transmission. Get pricing on the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan

== Midsize 3-Row SUVs ==
 2022 Acura MDX

Acura says the MDX is the best-selling three-row luxury SUV of all time, which isn't hard to believe given its reasonable pricing (and the fact that it was one of the very first three-row luxury SUVs). Still, that doesn't take away from what a thoroughly nice crossover the MDX is. With a standard third row of seats in its stylish, high-quality cabin, every new MDX can carry seven passengers

Redesigned for 2021, it moves into 2022 with a higher-performance Type S model that piles on power without skimping on luxury either. Instead of the standard MDX's naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6, the Type S gets a turbocharged 3.0-liter with a healthy 355 hp. All-wheel drive is optional on the regular Acura MDX and standard on the Type S, which also gets a four-corner air suspension that both improves comfort and provides a bit more ground clearance when necessary. 2022 Audi Q7

Even with standard all-wheel drive and trim, German styling, the 2022 Audi Q7 still flies under the radar compared with its competitors at BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Audi offers the Q7 in a few different variations, starting with a base turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that gets 21 mpg combined. A 3.0-liter V6 is an option on some trims, getting 20 mpg. At the top of the heap is a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8, available only on the SQ7 sport-ute but cranking out 500 hp and getting 17 mpg

Whatever variant you get, all Q7 and SQ7 models come standard with a third-row seat and a total passenger capacity of seven. The rear seat in the Q7 is a bit more spacious than that of the BMW X5 or Mercedes-Benz GLE, as well. Get pricing on the 2022 Audi Q7

 2022 BMW X5

The 2022 BMW X5 may be mid-sized, but that doesn't stop the automaker from offering a third row of seats on its popular crossover. The optional third row bumps the X5's seating capacity to seven passengers, though it does come at theof cargo space with all seats up

The 2022 BMW X5 offers the third row as an option on two models: thexDrive40i or the all-wheel-drive xDrive40i. Both have a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six under the hood making a smooth 335 hp. Both are even pretty efficient, achieving 22 mpg combined with xDrive or 23 without. Get pricing on the 2022 BMW X5

 2022 Buick Enclave

Fresh off a mild facelift, the 2022 Buick Enclave is a little bit sharper and more stylish, while still maintaining its massive interior space and standard third-row seat. Changes for 2022 include relocating the headlights to the bumper and giving the SUV trendy new eyebrow-style LED running lights. The rear end is similarly updated, with sharper taillights. Most importantly, the new Enclave also gets a long list of standard safety features, which should be of interest to family-oriented shoppers. Automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assistance, and blind spot monitoring are now standard, as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

 2022 Cadillac XT6

Cadillac offers two three-row SUVs, and the XT6 is the least expensive way in. Unlike the body-on-frame Escalade, the XT6 is a unibody crossover with either front- or all-wheel drive, with either a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four or a 3.6-liter V6 under the hood. The seven-passenger XT6 puts two USB ports in each row of seats, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto keeping your favorite apps close at hand. A power liftgate is also standard. 2022 Chevrolet Traverse

The 2022 Chevrolet Traverse is one large crossover. With seating for up to eight and 23.0 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, the Traverse has nearly as much room as the full-size Chevrolet Tahoe. Yet it achieves a respectable 21 mpg in mixed driving and can tow up to 5,000 pounds, courtesy of a standard 3.6-liter V6 and nine-speed automatic transmission

Automatic emergency braking, lane keep assistance, wireless smartphone integration, and three-zone automatic climate controls keep every passenger safe and comfortable on the base model, although niceties like heated and ventilated leather seats, adaptive cruise control, and a surround-view monitor are available on higher trims. There's also a sporty-styled RS model that boasts gloss black accents, dark-finished wheels, and a trick grille badge to add some attitude to the family crossover. 2022 Dodge Durango

Long a favorite of the muscle car crowd, the 2022 Dodge Durango loses one key feature – the available supercharged Hellcat V8. Those looking for 710 hp in a three-row SUV will be disappointed, but for everyone else, the Durango offers an adequate 3.6-liter V6, a snorting 5.7-liter V8, or a roaring 6.4-liter V8 in its engine lineup. The latter two enable a best-in-class towing capacity of 8,700 pounds

Otherwise, the 2022 Durango gets plenty of space for six or seven passengers, as well as respectable cargo room given the crossover's smallish overall stature. Get pricing on the 2022 Dodge Durango

 2022 Ford Explorer

The 2022 Ford Explorer continues the nameplate's winning streak for family-friendly SUV capability. New this year are a few different models, including the ruggedized Timberline, the sporty-styled (but base-engined) ST-Line, and aversion of the high-performance ST. We bet most Ford families would get the most use out of a Timberline model, whose all-terrain tires, slight lift, and robust cladding would help it get out into the wilderness and back drama-free

The Ford Explorer is available with six or seven seats and four different powertrains. A turbocharged 2.3-liter inline-four is standard and found on most models. The Limited Hybrid gets a naturally aspirated 3.3-liter V6 and an electric motor, while the Platinum gets a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6. Finally, at the top of the food chain is the ST, which gets a version of the same engine making 400 hp.is standard, and all-wheel drive is an option. Get pricing on the 2022 Ford Explorer

 2022 Genesis GV80

It's no secret that we really like the Genesis GV80. Its bold, graceful styling and incredible interior – even at its base price – make it a great fit for every luxury buyer. The third-row seat on the 3.5T V6 Advanced+ model is what merits entry on this list. Although the sixth and seventh seating positions are a bit cramped, they could be useful if you just have to move a few extra folks around. Get pricing on the 2022 Genesis GV80

 2022 GMC Acadia

Every 2022 GMC Acadia is a three-row SUV, with the option of second-row bucket seats or a bench making it either a six-seat or seven-seat SUV. The Acadia comes standard with a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four with 228 hp, though a 310-hp 3.6-liter V6 is optional. The Acadia is smaller inside and out than the Chevrolet Traverse, making it a good fit for empty-nesters, single folks, and smaller families that want the occasional flexibility of a third row without any extra baggage

The Acadia gets clever SmartSlide second-row seats that tilt forward to make it easier to access the third row. In addition to volume-selling SLE and SLT models, there's a rugged AT4 with all-terrain tires and unique styling. There's also a premium Acadia Denali model with bright exterior details, heated leather seats in the first two rows, and ventilated seats up front. Get pricing on the 2022 GMC Acadia

 2022 Honda Pilot

The 2022 Honda Pilot may be one of the older entries in its segment, but that doesn't hold it back. Like many Hondas, the Pilot makes the most of its size with excellent packaging – space for eight passengers and up to 83.9 cubic feet of cargo space. It can also tow 5,000 pounds thanks to a 3.5-liter V6, which also gets up to 23 mpg combined with front-drive or 22 combined with all-wheel drive

The 2022 Honda Pilot comes in many different trim levels, but all are equipped with standard automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assistance, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring. The base LX model is gone for 2022, so the cheapest way into a Pilot is now the Sport model. Get pricing on the 2022 Honda Pilot

 2022 Hyundai Palisade

The Hyundai Palisade and its closely related Kia Telluride cousin made a big splash in the three-row crossover market when they arrived a few years ago. Hyundai will capitalize on that success with a mild facelift for the Palisade coming next year, but for now, the eight-seat SUV is the same great product we know and love

One of the Palisade's best attributes is its size. In this class, seating capacity is usually capped at six or seven, but the Palisade has up to eight seatbelts onboard, and even the back row is reasonably comfortable for adults. A standard 3.8-liter V6 helps the Palisade tow up to 5,000 pounds properly equipped. Get pricing on the 2022 Hyundai Palisade

 2022 Infiniti QX60

The old Infiniti QX60 was utterly forgettable, but the new one is crisply styled, nicely finished, and downright pleasant to drive. Partial credit goes to the new nine-speed automatic, which replaces a continuously variable transmission that was dull and uninspiring

With three rows of seats standard, the QX60 can carry up to eight passengers, though most models get the second-row captain's chairs that limit the count to seven. Still, it's got plenty of space for most small families who sometimes have to take Grandma and Grandpa along for the ride. Get pricing on the 2022 Infiniti QX60

 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L

The Jeep Grand Cherokee L debuted last year as the first variant of the redesigned midsize-SUV family. The first seven-seat Grand Cherokee in history, the L model is spacious and attractive, with a surprisingly big third-row seat that can accommodate two passengers in relative comfort. Like the two-row GC, the Grand Cherokee L offers either a 3.6-liter V6 or a 5.7-liter V8 – we suspect the new Stellantis turbocharged inline-six will arrive in the next couple years

Till then, the V6 makes a decent daily driver, though folks who want to tow should plan on optioning the V8 and its attendant 7,200-pound trailering capacity. Rear-wheel drive is standard, with three different all-wheel-drive setups (including two with a selectable low range)

Starting Price: $38,720
Combined Fuel Economy: 21 MPG
Cargo Space: 17.2 / 46.9 / 84.6 cubic feet
Motor1.com Rating: 9.3/10
 2022 Kia Sorento

The 2022 Kia Sorento is one of the smaller three-row SUVs on the market today, but its trim proportions and good price make it one of our favorites. And those way-back seating positions aren't as bad as one might think – you won't feel too guilty asking your neighbor's kids to sit back there. With seating for six or seven, depending on if you get the second-row captain's chairs or a bench seat, the Kia Sorento is one of the best options for families who occasionally need to bring the playgroup along for a ride

The Sorento comes standard with a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder that gets up to 26 mpg combined, but if you can swing it, the turbocharged 2.5-liter is much more fun to drive and it still gets up to 25 mpg. With 281 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque, the turbo Sorento has even more twist than the larger Kia Telluride. There are also hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions that get up to 37 mpg or offer 33 miles of all-electric range. Get pricing on the 2022 Kia Sorento

 2022 Kia Telluride

Like the Hyundai Palisade, the Telluride has seating for up to eight passengers, all wrapped in one of the most handsome designs in the SUV space. The Telluride can tow up to 5,000 pounds thanks to a standard V6 engine. All-wheel drive is an option on the Telluride

 2022 Land Rover Defender

When Land Rover reintroduced the Defender to the US market after a brief hiatus, we were surprised, but happy, to see that it would offer a third row option on the four-door 110 model. By sneaking a pair of seats behind the second row, the 2022 Land Rover Defender 110 offers seating for up to seven passengers – too bad you can't order the front bench seat and the third row in the same vehicle or that number would be eight

The Defender 110 comes in a few different flavors. The base 296-horse inline-four is a good engine for most driving duties, and it can handle off-road obstacles okay. The 3.0-liter inline-six is far more enthusiastic though, thanks to 395 hp and a mild-hybrid system that reduces turbo lag and improves smoothness. The trulyamong us will want the Defender V8, whose supercharged 5.0-liter makes 518 hp

 2022 Land Rover Discovery

The 2022 Land Rover Discovery is a rugged, mid-size three-row SUV that revives one of the automaker's most storied nameplates. As one would expect of a Land Rover, it has standard all-wheel drive, with an optional locking rear differential and low-range transfer case. The 2022 Land Rover Discovery seats up to seven passengers inside a stylish, well-appointed cabin

The 2022 model offers two different turbocharged engines. A 2.0-liter inline-four makes 296 horsepower, while a mild-hybrid 3.0-liter inline-six has 355 hp. Both get 21 mpg combined, though the smaller engine is a touch more efficient in the city. The inline-six can tow up to 8,200 pounds and is very smooth and enjoyable to drive, while the four-banger works just fine in normal traffic if power isn't a huge priority. 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

Folks who want a stylish, sporty luxury SUV with seven seats have many options, and the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Sport remains a favorite. The three-row seating configuration is optional, and while the seats in the back are a bit smallish, the Range Rover Sport is still a very desirable luxury vehicle for families

If you want one, you'd better act quick. The 2023 Range Rover Sport loses its optional 5+2 seating configuration, leaving that space to the likewise-new 2022 Range Rover. Get pricing on the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

 2022 Lexus GX

Yes, the 2022 Lexus GX is pretty ancient as new cars go, dating back to the 2010 model year (with some facelifts since then). That means you're not going to get the power or fuel economy of more modern products, with only 301 hp and 16 mpg from its 4.6-liter V8. What you do get is a robust body-on-frame design with selectable low-range gearing for the standard four-wheel drive, making the GX 460 as close as you can get to a Lexus-badged 4Runner. The tall, narrow design also pays dividends inside, with plenty of headroom for all passengers. Get pricing on the 2022 Lexus GX

 2022 Lexus RX L

The 2022 Lexus RX L is the luxury automaker's entry-level three-row SUV. Available as the RX 350L or the RX 450hL hybrid, it's stretched just a bit over the standard RX, and the third row is rather cramped. But it can come through in a pinch. Lexus was one of the first automakers to hybridize much of its lineup, and it's no surprise that the RX 450hL gets a respectable 29 mpg combined. It also comes standard with all-wheel drive, which is an option on the RX 350L. Get pricing on the 2022 Lexus RX L

 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE

Little-known fact: The original Mercedes-Benz M-Class mid-size SUV offered a third-row seat in its first generation. That went away until the M-Class' replacement, the GLE, was redesigned for 2019. However, the popular Benz crossover now offers seating for seven passengers thanks to the optional third-row seat – which also bundles electric seat adjustments for the second row

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE is available with either a 2.0-liter inline-four or a 3.0-liter inline-six. For now, the V8-equipped GLE 580 and GLE 63 models have been discontinued due to production shortages. However, the inline-six available on the GLE 450 and GLE 53 is a peach, with plenty of torque and buttery-smooth operation. The four-banger is okay too, and it gets respectable fuel economy. If the auto industry gave out most-improved awards, the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder might be a shoo-in. Replacing a predecessor that sold well but was very underwhelming, the new Pathfinder's single greatest improvement might be its new nine-speed automatic transmission – no more CVT! The Nissan is also pretty spacious, with room for up to eight passengers thanks to three seat belts in both rear rows

The Tesla Model X isn't nearly as cheap as it used to be – the base price jumped more than $30,000 in the last couple years – but it does boast a range of up to 348 company-estimated miles in thre-row form. There's also a bonkers Plaid model that can go 333 miles on a charge and accelerate to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds. Get pricing on the 2022 Tesla Model X

Although its third-row seat is a bit smaller than competitors, it still has plenty of room for the family, and it's available in a variety of trim levels and either front- or all-wheel drive. The Highlander also has an available hybrid powertrain that gets very good fuel economy

Like most modern Toyotas, the 2022 Highlander comes standard with automated emergency braking, radar-based adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, and automatic high beams. 2022 Volvo XC90

Volvo is always keen to tout its vehicles' safety records, but the company also considers climate change to be a far more serious safety threat. As such, it has electrified its entire lineup, and all future Volvo debuts will be all-electric. The 2022 Volvo XC90 hasn't been made into a full EV (yet), but that doesn't stop it from offering a bit of sustainability with its spacious, seven-seat interior

For starters, the XC90 T8 Recharge plug-in hybrid model got an upgrade for 2022 and can now travel 36 miles on pure electricity before the gas engine fires up, with a combined fuel economy rating of 26 mpg all things considered. What's more, we expect mild-hybrid technology to arrive on the lesser T5 and T6 trims for 2023. Get pricing on the 2022 Volvo XC90

 2022 BMW X7

BMW's largest-ever US offering is the 2022 X7, which is a proper three-row SUV with seating for seven. The 2022 BMW X7 comes with one of three different powertrains. A turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six is standard on the xDrive40i, while the M50i model gets a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8. At the top of the lineup is a high-output twin-turbo 4.4-liter tuned by Alpina for the so-called XB7 model

All-wheel drive is standard across the board, and BMW offers an off-road package with a locking rear differential and selectable terrain programming. But the X7 and XB7 are happiest on the open road, where their impressive interiors and effortless acceleration are on full display. Get pricing on the 2022 BMW X7

 2022 Cadillac Escalade

Although Cadillac has seen some ups and downs in the last couple decades, the Escalade flagship SUV has always been a sales success for the brand. It's also better than ever since it was fully redesigned for 2021. 2022 brings few updates, but that's not a bad thing. The Escalade still has an incredibly spacious, comfortable interior and available Super Cruise hands-free driver assistance that works brilliantly on limited-access highways

The Escalade is available in normal or extended wheelbase (ESV) models with rear- or four-wheel drive and the buyer's choice of a 6.2-liter V8 or a turbodiesel 3.0-liter inline-six. Next year's powerful, range-topping Escalade-V will get a supercharger and – get this – 682 hp. It also has a price tag of nearly 150 grand. If that's too much for you, don't sweat it. Both the standard V8 and the optional turbodiesel are excellent engines for this sumptuous, comfortable luxo-SUV. Get pricing on the 2022 Cadillac Escalade

 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban

One of the first SUVs in history was the Chevrolet Suburban, which came out in 1935 and has been a staple of, um, the suburbs ever since. Seriously, the Suburban and its shorter-wheelbase Tahoe sibling are just about as spacious as it gets without resorting to a church-surplus passenger van

For 2022, they carry over mostly unchanged, but that's not a bad thing. When these fraternal twins debuted last year, they brought with them a long list of standard safety features like automatic emergency braking and lane-keep assist, as well as an optional (and incredibly comfortable) air suspension with magnetic dampers. What's more, these body-on-frame SUVs offer two V8s – a 5.3-liter or a 6.2-liter – and a turbodiesel 3.0-liter inline-six, meaning they're up for some heavy towing. 2022 Ford Expedition

Whether you pick a 2022 Ford Expedition or an extended-wheelbase Expedition MAX, you're going to get a lot of space for the money. The 2022 model year marks a mid-cycle refresh for the Expedition, comprising tweaked cosmetics and a revised lineup that now includes the lifted Expedition Timberline and the sport-tuned Expedition Stealth. Every 2022 Expedition has a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 under the hood, good for up to 440 hp on those two trims – the XL, XLT, and STX has 380 ponies, while the Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum have 400

Also new for 2022 is a revised interior, including an optional 15.5-inch center display borrowed from the Mustang Mach-E. BlueCruise handsfree driver assistance is also available. The 2022 Ford Expedition can also tow up to 9,300 pounds, a number that would have been unheard of for most family SUVs just a few years ago. Get pricing on the 2022 Ford Expedition

2022 GMC Yukon / Yukon XL

GMC redesigned its popular Yukon lineup alongside the related Chevy Tahoe and Suburban for 2021, and they carry into 2022 with few changes. The regular-wheelbase Yukon and long-wheelbase Yukon XL are among the most spacious passenger vehicles on the market, perfect for limousine, executive, and family shoppers

The Yukon comes standard with a 5.3-liter V8, though a 6.2-liter V8 and a 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-six are available. Automatic emergency braking is standard, as are wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. Premium interior options like leather upholstery and ventilated seats, are available, and the short-wheelbase Yukon also comes in an off-road–ready AT4 trim level. Get pricing on the 2022 GMC Yukon

 2022 Infiniti QX80

Following a minor update last year, the 2022 Infiniti QX80 is mostly unchanged. Rear-wheel drive is standard, takingfrom a 400-hp 5.6-liter V8 and seven-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel drive with a selectable low range is optional, giving the QX80 legitimate off-road capability – no surprise given there's a Nissan Patrol Y62 hiding under the posh Infiniti bodywork

The big luxury SUV is still getting on in years, though. Getting just 16 mpg combined inform, the QX80 is thirsty, and although it has a smooth, cushy ride (and plenty of ground clearance and wheel articulation), body motions can feel unsettling on a curvy road. Still, it feels reassuringly robust and rugged, and the comfy interior is just a bonus. Get pricing on the 2022 Infiniti QX80

2022 Jeep Wagoneer / Grand Wagoneer

Jeep hadn't had a seven-passenger SUV in the lineup since the late, lamentable Commander got discontinued in 2010, but suddenly, there are three. In addition to the mid-size Grand Cherokee L, the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are full-size, body-on-frame SUVs built to do battle with the likes of the Chevrolet Tahoe and Lincoln Navigator. The Wagoneer is more of a mainstream sport-ute, with a standard 5.7-liter Hemi V8 and comfortable-but-modest interior fittings – leather is standard, with a smattering of wood and aluminum trim. Get pricing on the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer

Meanwhile, the big-daddy Grand Wagoneer is built to battle the Escalade, with a 6.4-liter Hemi and up to five infotainment screens in the cabin – the main one in the middle of the dash, an extra screen in front of the passenger seat, twoentertainment displays, and aHVAC/audio controller. There are also acres of high-grade leather and an available MacIntosh audio system. A hands-free Active Driving Assistant will arrive later this year. Get pricing on the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer

 2022 Lexus LX

Redesigned for this model year, the 2022 Lexus LX 600 is a better luxury SUV than any of its predecessors, yet it hasn't lost the plot as far as off-road capability is concerned. Based on the 300-Series Toyota Land Cruiser (that we don't get in the US), the LX 600 now offers a base trim that's only a little more expensive than the previous-generation Land Cruiser, as well as several posh variants that seat up to seven

Found under the hood is a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 with 409 hp, and it gets a much-improved 19 mpg combined. The Lexus LX can also tow up to 8,000 pounds, and it offers the automaker's impressive new tech suite displayed on a 12.3-inch center touchscreen. Get pricing on the 2022 Lexus LX

 2022 Lincoln Navigator

Fresh off an update for 2022, the Lincoln Navigator has a bit more technology onboard to do battle with the impressive Cadillac Escalade. Foremost, the big sport-ute gets available ActiveGlide hands-free driver assistance, which works about as well as the Escalade's Super Cruise. Also on-hand is a big, 13.2-inch center screen with wireless smartphone integration, as well as a 5.2-inch screen forpassengers to control their climate and audio functions

As with last year's SUV, a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 is standard, producing a healthy 440 hp. With an 8,700-pound towing capacity, the Navigator can get the whole polo team – and their horses – to the pitch. Get pricing on the 2022 Lincoln Navigator

 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS

Mercedes-Benz may be most famous for the G-Class, but the three-row GLS packs folks in much more comfortably. For 2022, only the base GLS 450 model is avaialbe, as the V8-powered GLS 580 and AMG GLS 63 versions have been temporarily discontinued due to supply issues. Unless of course you have money to spend, in which case you can get the first SUV to wear a Maybach badge. The 2022 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 offers tons of power from its twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8, though if you need a third row, the Maybach can't help you

Not to worry. The Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 has tons of available luxury features, and its 362-hp, turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six is a paragon of smoothness thanks to a mild-hybrid system. The GLS can also tow up to 7,700 pounds, and available air suspension with active anti-roll bars allows the SUV to lean into corners and counteract body roll. 2022 Nissan Armada

Nissan's flagship three-row SUV received a big update for 2021, but it's still the same lovable, if flawed, off-road–capable SUV it's always been. Like the Infiniti QX80, the Armada is based on the same platform as the global Nissan Patrol, and those jungle-ready bones shine through in the SUV's good suspension articulation and composed ride over rocks and obstacles. However, its 5.6-liter V8 is thirsty, and the Armada tends to come undone in corners and on undulating pavement. Get pricing on the 2022 Nissan Armada

 2022 Land Rover Range Rover

A new entry to this list, the full-size 2022 Range Rover now offers a third row of seats on long-wheelbase models. Replacing the smaller, three-row Range Rover Sport, the seven-passenger Range Rover is redesigned for this model year, bringing a long list of off-road and luxury features to the legendary British SUV. But that doesn't mean it's forgotten its heritage – a drop-down tailgate is still standard, perfect for posh picnics in an English garden

Under the hood of the 2022 Range Rover is either a mild-hybrid, turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six or a mild-hybrid twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 (sourced from BMW). Both provide good performance on the road, though obviously the V8 is much faster and sportier. In long-wheelbase, seven-passenger form, the 2022 Range Rover is massive inside, with a third row that can actually accommodate adults (if for short journeys only)

Starting Price: $110,500
Combined Fuel Economy: 21 MPG
Cargo Space: 8.7 / 42.1 / 93.9 cubic feet
Motor1.com Rating: 9.7/10
 2022 Toyota Sequoia

The 2022 Toyota Sequoia might be dated, but that doesn't stop it from being a spacious, comfortable three-row SUV. In TRD Pro trim, it's especially ideal for adventurous families, who would appreciate its Fox internal-bypass shocks and high-clearance suspension. A 5.7-liter V8 appears under the hood, and it's got plenty of torque (though an appetite for gasoline as well)

If the current Sequoia doesn't suit your mood, the 2023 model is completely redesigned with a new, twin-turbocharged V6 available with or without electrification. The new Sequoia loses the 2022 model's independent rear suspension (and some third-row space to boot), but it should still be plenty spacious for five – or seven in a pinch.
