[09/17/2020] update
Sony has officially revealed the release date and price of the Playstation 5:
- Sony Playstation 5 Digital Edition (no Blu-ray player): €399
- Sony Playstation 5: €499
The Playstation 5 will be released on November 19, 2020 in France

Sony’s Playstation 5 was finally revealed last night after an online presentation that was originally supposed to focus solely on future titles for this console

After the presentation of the many games that will accompany the release of this next-gen game console in the last quarter of 2020, Sony unveiled not one but two Playstation 5s

*Two versions of the Playstation 5 will be released: one with a disc drive and one without, following the example of the Xbox One S All Digital from Microsoft.*
Consequently, gamers will be able to choose between two different models of this new video game console:
- The “standard” Playstation 5 with an integrated disc drive to play games on disc as well as movies, and, in theory, backwards compatibility with PS4 games

- The Playstation 5 Digital Edition which doesn’t feature a disc drive, meaning that all games will have to be downloaded via the Playstation Store

Other than the presence or absence of a 4K Blu-ray player, the technical characteristics of both versions of the PS5 are identical:
- 3rd generation AMD Ryzen SoC (7nm)
- 2 to 8-core Zen CPU running at 3.5 GHz
- AMD RDNA 2 GPU capable of 10.28 teraflops (2.23GHz) and compatible with Ray Tracing
- 16GB GDDR6 256-bit RAM
- SSD internal storage (825GB) with a specific 12-channel controller (announced raw data transmission rate of over 5GB/s)
- NVMe SSD port
- USB drive
- Tempest Engine 3D Audio motor
With a spec sheet like that, this console will be able to provide images optimized for display on a 4K Ultra High Definition TV or even an 8K TV

*Sony’s designers have done great work for the Playstation 5, which has a very innovative design.*
Visually, the Playstation 5 stands out from previous models with its flowing, rounded lines, and above all its two-tone black andfinish. The console, which can be installed horizontally or vertically, will come with a two-tone DualSense controller that offers even more precise and nuanced haptic feedback than the previous generation of Sony Playstation 4 controllers

*The Playstation 5’s new DualSense controller will offer even more sensations and better control.*
Roll on Christmas 2020!
