= Advice for mounting a patio awning to a brick exterior. =

I purchased a retractable patio awning that I need to mount to the brick exterior of our home. The awning has brackets that attach using some sleeve anchors not unlike these, httpswww.homedepot.com/p/Red-Head-1-2-in-x-3-in-Zinc-Plated-Steel-Hex-Head-Sleeve-Anchors-10-Pack-11014/100148494. I'm concerned though because the brick has holes on the inside like this, httpsi.imgur.com/fUJVbd4.jpeg

Would it be a bad idea to mount the brackets into the mortar between the bricks so they are at least in something solid? The only other thing I can think of would be to drill holes, fill the brick with mortar, then redrill holes once it's all dried, but that doesn't seem like a great idea

I have no expertise in this, so any advice on a good way to mount these brackets would be appreciated. The awning is 13"x8", weighs ~50 lbs, and uses 3 mounting brackets. When the awning is open though, the force is definitely going to be more than 50 lbs, so I need to make sure the brackets are secure

Definitely mount in the mortar. Always better to drill into the joint than the face of a brick
