It really bothers me how Americans (besides actual Historians it seems) have absolutely no ability to examine Hiroshima and Nagasaki in a critical manner. Like, the idea that these were an unequivocal and undeniable moral good is seared into the National identity so
*thoroughly* they can’t even question it a little bit. Yet this was not the prevailing attitude towards the bombing in the wake of the war itself—it only exist years after the fact because it is what we teach children in school

There’s no other event in history that I’ve found which is so difficult for Americans to even consider a different perspective
