Fifty ReiMari headcanons, as promised.

As children, Marisa once turned Reimu's hair purple in a novel display of magical prowess. Unfortunately, the appropriate counterspell for undoing the coloring was beyond the young mage's capabilities at the time. The tint didn't start fading until weeks later.

Reimu lets Marisa conduct experiments in a spare storage shed behind the shrine because Marisa's house is too full ofto do anything in anymore.

Marisa has never filched anything from the shrine - first out of a fear of Hakurei-brand retribution, then a sense of pity for a poor impoverished soul, and now a healthy respect for her friend's property rights.

Reimu nearly exterminated Marisa after she spoiled the ending to an Agatha Chris Q novel.

Reimu got hooked on stargazing through Marisa - though she derives her enjoyment less from the wondrous sight of the heavens and more from the company and conversation.

Clownpiece has seen Reimu and Marisa kiss before, on the lips, the same way Master and Honorable Friend do. Her little fairyhas not fully realized theconnotations" of this specific act quite yet.

Kosuzu lowkey ships Reimu and Marisa IRL but doesn't

reallybelieve that the two are actually doing something like that.

Meanwhile, Akyuu is about six years tardy with her in-universe canon and still thinks that Reimu and Marisa are rivals or something.

Though suspicious, Sumireko ultimately concluded that Reimu and Marisa were not in a relationship because Reimu "didn't seem like the type to be a lesbian".

Sanae, being Sanae, is oblivious to the fact that Reimu and Marisa might be more than friends.

Rinnosuke doesn't care whether they're in a relationship or not - he just wants them to leave him and his shop alone. (Will still cry buckets at the wedding.)

Aunn is Reimu's secret wingdog, making sure no one butts in on any intimate moments and providing some much needed romantic pushes when required. She's crafty like that.

Marisa was totally prepared to fly intoherself spellcards ablazing to rescue Reimu's soul.

Dream Reimu and Dream Marisa are raging lesbians who frequently and violently make out, scream their deepest wants and insecurities at each other, and generally do all sorts ofthat annoy their fellow residents in the Dream World.

Reimu learned how to properly brew tea instead of leaf juice slosh from Marisa, alongside other, finer points of etiquette and polite mannerisms. In fact, Reimu is Marisa's primary target to flex her secret childhood ojou-sama power level on. Now if only the two would put those lessons on delicacy to use more often

Reimu and Marisa had their first kiss during a moment alone at a flower-viewing party. Reimu, very drunk, leaned in to give a peck on the cheek (almost colliding with Marisa in the process). Marisa, also very drunk, hesitated for a moment before deciding "I want this" and locking lips.

Marisa made the connection way too late that the shrine maiden whose induction she attended as a child was Reimu.

The Hakurei Shrine has only one futon, which Reimu and Marisa have to share whenever the latter stays over for the night. Strangely, Reimu never gets a second one.

Due to her innate luck Reimu tends to obtain high quality ingredients in her foraging and hunting but squanders them with her awful cooking. In contrast, Marisa usually only acquire ingredients ofquestionable quality from the Forest of Magic, but is a real whiz in the kitchen when she has a pantry that doesn'tyou. Working together the two can produce dishes that an ordinary resident of Gensokyo could call edible.

Reimu is partial to the taste of mushroom stir-fry, owing to Marisa's gastronomical habits.

Marisa has worn Reimu's shrine maiden uniform before. Reimu will never wear Marisa's magician get up.

Marisa occasionally places some of her own money in the shrine donation box. They may both be poor, but clearly one of them needs the funds more than the other.

~~Basically it's a shared account~~

Reimu is the only person outside of the Kirisame family to see Marisa cry.

Reimu ties the bow of Marisa's hat for her.

Yukari tolerates Reimu and Marisa's love, if only because it'd be too much of a hassle to break it up and mind wipe everyone. She still warns the witch not to do anything that would be particularlyupsetting to Reimu. An emotionally unstable tool is an unreliable tool after all.

Reimu and Marisa have a whole set of partner spell cards complete with cutesy, punny name combinations (declaring them out loud is necessary as a verbal catalyst for the cards) and sustained hand-holding (physical contact is a mandatory catalyst as well don't question it I'm the magician here). Naturally, this collection will never ever see the light of day and will also inevitably be discovered by Aya.

At first, Marisa was a pest to Reimu, just like everyone else. Now, the shrine feels empty when the magician isn't there near-daily.

Marisa has an armpit fetish.

Marisa once enchanted aof household items to tidy up the Hakurei Shrine (a la

The Sorcerer's Apprentice). This pleased Reimu, until she got bored without the menial distraction cleaning provided and went back to doing it herself. Not before exterminating all of the magic items first, of course.

Marisa once defeated Yuuka in a danmaku duel so that the flower master would create a special variety of flowers just for her anniversary with Reimu (look up the Reimu flower). They died after Reimu forgot to water them.

When Marisa and Reimuout they have danmaku duels to decide who has the honor of being the one to pay the bill.

Marisa's current ride was crafted from a mundane broom Reimu let her "borrow". Marisa made it up to her by magicking a new broom from the backyard cherry blossom tree.

Reimu and Marisa both make surprisingly good audience members, listening to each other talk about the latest gossip or a topic of expertise for hours and hours enrapt. This level of patience doesn't pop up at all for any of the other gasbags in Gensokyo however. Maybe it has something to do with the speaker.

Marisa recognizes that Reimu would be much happier if she accepted her lot in life and stopped trying to strive towards some unreachable material or spiritual goal that would not fulfill her either in the journey or the destination. To that end the magician tempers the shrine maiden's outlandish get-rich-quick schemes or her heavy-handed frenzies of extermination with so that she can get right back into what she truly enjoys: drinking warm tea and having warm conversation on the porch of the Hakurei Shrine. Sometimes Marisa wonders whether she would be happier too if she accepted a state of ordinariness.

Reimu is miles more fond of Marisa when she's showing her "smart" side (both intelligently and emotionally) then when she's putting up her usual front of bombastic, and reciprocates Marisa's moments of kindness with gentleness of her own. Marisa, in turn, is glad that she has someone she can loosen her facade around and simply

be.

Miko knows that Reimu and Marisa are in love because she has read their desires.

Reimu secretly envies Marisa's diligence. Something about the magician's extraordinary ability to persevere and lay in the effort stings, especially considering her ownwhen it comes to seeing things through. However — lacking self-awareness — Reimu can't quite pin down what's discomforting her so much when she sees Marisa excelling past the natural Hakurei talent. Sounds familiar

Marisa puts on a lot of bravado, but ultimately she's a gigantic dork when it comes down to spitting out her inner emotions. Reimu, on the other hand, is very forward with her feelings towards her "friend" - just like with everyone else.

Really, Marisa is an absolute tryhard when it comes to romancing, doing all this crazy fantastical magicwhen all that Reimu truly needs to be pleased is some good food and some good company. Maybe a back rub too.

Compared to Marisa's extravagant offerings, Reimu gives some disappointingly paltry gifts in return — we're talking "extra piece of yokan from the plate" or "pouring the tea for her first" type of gifts here. It's not for lack of effort — if there is one person who actually makes Reimu try, it is Marisa — the shrine maiden is just

badat coming up with the stuff that makes the ladies swoon. Marisa doesn't mind though. While trite, the phrase "It's the thought that counts" is true.

Marisa was painfully aware of the effects that her studies on immortality had on her relationship with Reimu, so she put a indefinite stop to them as a result. Nowadays, she doesn't feel bad about it. Life is better when you're rushing into a shrine maiden's arms instead of towards some artificial goal.

Reimu thinks it's pretty cute how much of an actual womanlet Marisa is (seriously, the gal is com

pact). This flusters Marisa, but that just makes the mini magician even cuter.

It was weird for Reimu to realize that Marisa might getduring an incident, It was even weirder for her still to feel fear over that fact.

Reimu's drawing skills are atrocious, enough to give onlookers nightmares (that's actual canon btw). Marisa's, on the other hand, are almost photographic in quality. Gotta get those detailed sketches of wild mushrooms for her field notes yo.

Marisa was the one to convince Reimu that maybe, just maybe, those "high top" things they saw out from Kourindou weren't bad fashion after all.

One time in arole reversal, Reimu crashed over at Marisa's cottage overnight — and never again. Sleeping outside exposed to youkai would have been preferable in most aspects.

Whenever Marisa makes a rare account of her childhood in the Human Village with her loving mother and father, Reimu listens, engrossed — if only to savor something she never possessed herself.

Reimu once performed a kagura, replete in ceremonial garb and prop. As per usual, she did not sense the Hakurei god during the holy performance. Marisa was present in the audience though, watching and smiling, so the offering wasn't for naught.

ReiMari became in-universe canon when Sagume let her tongue slip.

ZUN ships ReiMari.

~~No wait that's canon

A export from my mind, as demanded by /u/finetxs. I can elaborate on any of these if so desired. Came this late not so much out of difficulty conceiving them as just plain old procrastination.

Feel free to add any shipping headcanons you may have here. That means any headcanon, from

*any* ship, not just ReiMari. Even (some god forgive me for typing these out) Malice andYukaRei.

But absolutely no SatoKoi or RemiFlan. Because no.

Well I used to think Kasen x Byakuren would be good, seeing the two were both mature and caring individuals with motherly tendencies but their big difference being Kasen's stern demeanor and Hijiri's more soft one actually being potentially complimentary. I could just image things like Kasen doing the scolding for Byakuren and Hijiri comforting her followers and encouraging their good behavior (she mentions punishing them but it seems she isn't very good at it in canon so it's best for her to stay her kind self and let some else do it). Also in chapter 9 of WaHH Kasen genuinely gets upset when the Myouren Temple is having a serious problem and Reimu refuses to help, trying to talk Reimu into it so it seemed she supported Byakuren's goals for peace between humans and youkai. Though they never actually talked and Kasen did something real rotten in the latest chapter so I don't know anymore.

I also ship Renko and Maribel, because they do practically everything together, they share a dorm, Renko is supportive of Maribel even though pretty much all of their society treats Merry like she's crazy and the moment Merry is released from an asylum she heads to Renko. It's practically like they were made to be shipped.

good. 50 HCs of good goodness. this was worth the wait. lemme just. point out and react to a few that i liked or made me laugh.

Kosuzu lowkey ships Reimu and Marisa IRL but doesn't really believe that the two are actually doing something like that. Meanwhile, Akyuu is about six years tardy with her in-universe canon and still thinks that Reimu and Marisa are rivals or something.

completely opposite ends of the spectrum from these two

Though suspicious, Sumireko ultimately concluded that Reimu and Marisa were not in a relationship because Reimu "didn't seem like the type to be a lesbian".

i have no clue what sumireko means, but i find myself agreeing with her regardless

Aunn is Reimu's secret wingdog, making sure no one butts in on any intimate moments and providing some much needed romantic pushes when required. She's crafty like that.

wingdog

good

Dream Reimu and Dream Marisa are raging lesbians who frequently and violently make out, scream their deepest wants and insecurities at each other, and generally do all sorts ofthat annoy their fellow residents in the Dream World.

~~surrounded by RAGING LESBIANS~~

dream reimu and dream marisa are honest at least

Reimu and Marisa had their first kiss during a moment alone at a flower-viewing party. Reimu, very drunk, leaned in to give a peck on the cheek (almost colliding with Marisa in the process). Marisa, also very drunk, hesitated for a moment before deciding "I want this" and locking lips.

their first kiss is, of course in typical gensokyo style, at a party while drunk.

The Hakurei Shrine has only one futon, which Reimu and Marisa have to share whenever the latter stays over for the night. Strangely, Reimu never gets a second one.

marisa is a frequent visitor at the shrine, yet reimu never seems to get a second futon. strange indeed. i wonder why

Marisa has worn Reimu's shrine maiden uniform before. Reimu will never wear Marisa's magician get up.

reimu should consider wearing marisa's outfit. she'd look quite nice in it

Yukari tolerates Reimu and Marisa's love, if only because it'd be too much of a hassle to break it up and mind wipe everyone. She still warns the witch not to do anything that would be particularlyupsetting to Reimu. An emotionally unstable tool is an unreliable tool after all.

the real reason why is because yukari also ships reimari. she just doesn't wanna admit it. and the fact that stopping the two from being together would probably just reimu even more upset

Naturally, this collection will never ever see the light of day and will also inevitably be discovered by Aya.

this would be really cute to see. nothing can hide from aya though, unfortunately

~~fortunately in this case~~

Marisa has an armpit fetish.

oh no

Marisa once defeated Yuuka in a danmaku duel so that the flower master would create a special variety of flowers just for her anniversary with Reimu (look up the Reimu flower). They died after Reimu forgot to water them.

i had forgotten about the reimu flower, so this is a good reminder that it exists

Really, Marisa is an absolute tryhard when it comes to romancing, doing all this crazy fantastical magicwhen all that Reimu truly needs to be pleased is some good food and some good company. Maybe a back rub too.

reimu is simple, and i appreciate that, but

Compared to Marisa's extravagant offerings, Reimu gives some disappointingly paltry gifts in return — we're talking "extra piece of yokan from the plate" or "pouring the tea for her first" type of gifts here. It's not for lack of effort — if there is one person who actually makes Reimu try, it is Marisa — the shrine maiden is just bad at coming up with the stuff that makes the ladies swoon. Marisa doesn't mind though. While trite, the phrase "It's the thought that counts" is true.

maybe reimu is a bit too simple

Reimu thinks it's pretty cute how much of an actual womanlet Marisa is (seriously, the gal is compact). This flusters Marisa, but that just makes the mini magician even cuter.

i know marisa is short, but just

*how* short is she

Whenever Marisa makes a rare account of her childhood in the Human Village with her loving mother and father, Reimu listens, engrossed — if only to savor something she never possessed herself.

:(

ReiMari became in-universe canon when Sagume let her tongue slip.

it was basically canon, even without the tongue slip. but good for sagume to know the good ships
