= Politicians moving forward: distract, but declare victory when needed. Exhibit A: Biden's SOTU address. =

Polling numbers are in and the democratic strategists have spoken: the public thinks that covid related restrictions have gone on long enough, despite the continued spread of the disease

So, to avoid questions about whether politicians ruined small businesses/education/personal freedom/quality of life for no gain or small gain, we'll see politicians shift the public's focus to some other crisis. And when speaking about covid, they'll suggest that we're allowed to live normally because we defeated/controlled the virus (for now), all while maintaining that draconian restrictions were most certainly needed previously

Biden's State of the Union address is a good case study. With the media shifting its tunnel vision to Russia, Biden obviously followed suit. And it's probably just a coincidence that DC ended its indoor mask mandate literally the day of this address and the CDC suddenly changed its definitions of risk so that 30% of the country is at risk, not 95%. His remarks about covid came more than halfway into the speech and obviously skirted past any of the questions a skeptical person might ask

Regarding masking:
"With 75% of adult Americans fully vaccinated and hospitalizations down by 77%, most Americans can remove their masks, return to work, stay in the classroom, and move forward safely."
But why are masks suddenly not needed now, and not, say, five months ago? Are things really all that different? Vaccination rates tapered last summer (when cases were also dramatically lower). Right now, nearby Virginia is averaging 83 covid deaths per day, higher than at any point in the pandemic besides February/March 2021. Why does the vaccination rate matter if the deaths are higher than at most points before the vaccines were even available? Wasn't all this nonsense about preventing deaths?
Regarding school/business closures:
"We can end the shutdown of schools and businesses. We have the tools we need. It’s time for Americans to get back to work and fill our great downtowns again. People working from home can feel safe to begin to return to the office."
Again, why now? Are we going to acknowledge that schoolchildren were never at risk of dying from covid? What "tools" do we have now that we did not have last year?
I could go on, but you get the point. Biden wants us to believe that things are somehow magically different now thanks to his careful guidance, and everything we endured was worth it. You also see this with Kathy Hochul suddenly deciding, in the face of the exact same evidence that we always had, that schoolchildren actually don't need to wear masks at all times

Don't let them forget what they put us through or get away with portraying their response as reasonable

Politicians couldn't shift public focus at the speed of light without the aid of media and people that have no critical thinking skills. The same template is being used for Russia that they utilized for Covid. Basically, it can be described as follows: Believe what we say, repeat what we say, do as we dictate and punish those that do not and/or disagree. And, currently the focus is on ensuring Ukraine's "freedom" from? No telling, they haven't done a side-by-side
